***A FREEZE WARNING IS IN EFFECT MONDAY NIGHT****Current Conditions at 3 p.m. EDT Monday afternoon: The feel of the air has changed significantly from last week weather wise as a blustery winter like northwest wind is holding temperatures down in the upper 30s. Ozone and fine particle pollution (PM2.5) are well down in the good range in the clean, cold air mass. Lows tonight will drop into the middle 20s in the colder spots. *** Tuesday’s forecast: The air is expected to be much milder on Tuesday as winds turn southwesterly. After a cold and frosty start, the mercury will rebound to the middle 50s. PM2.5 will rise to moderate for a few hours in the morning, then concentrations decrease by afternoon with increasing mixing. Ozone is expected to be a little higher, but still average at the top of the good range as the sun will fade behind clouds during the afternoon. Rain and rain showers are likely Tuesday night as a weak frontal boundary approaches. *** Extended forecast: Morning clouds and a shower will yield to a little afternoon sunshine on Wednesday. A late day shower cannot be ruled out. PM2.5 will rise a little but remain in the good range. Cloud cover may still be too extensive for ozone formation. Thursday and Friday will be the warmest days of the forecast period with highs near 70. Ozone may go lower moderate both days.
