Air Quality Index for Pennsylvania

The highest AQ index in Pennsylvania (as of 22:00 EDT) is currently the Mercer County area. Ozone (OZONE) is measuring at 43 (Good). This means air quality is satisfactory, and air pollution poses little or no risk.

Over the next few days, the highest Particle Pollution (PM2.5) will be in the Lehigh Valley area. It is forecasted to be Good, meaning air quality is satisfactory, and air pollution poses little or no risk.

Current Conditions: At 2 p.m. EDT this Tuesday afternoon, unseasonably cold and gusty northwesterly winds are keeping mixing and dispersion strong across the area, so fine particle pollution (PM2.5) concentrations remain low. Though the air turns a little milder later this week, below normal temperatures will continue, and the pattern will turn unsettled once again. Here are the forecast details: *** Wednesday’s forecast: Less wind Wednesday as high pressure briefly settles in with a milder afternoon. Sunshine into the early afternoon, then clouds increase late in the day. PM2.5 concentrations will be higher, but overall averages will remain in the good range. *** Extended forecast: An unsettled pattern will return late this week. Low pressure coming out of the Midwest will cause clouds and some rain to overspread the region Thursday. Friday, a new low develops across the Mid-Atlantic states, perhaps bringing a soaking rainfall. This system will be slow to move eastward with plenty of clouds and a couple of showers lingering into Saturday. A new zone of high pressure finally builds in Sunday and dries things out. Air quality will continue to be in the good range late this week into the weekend.---McAuliffe
