Current Conditions: At 2 p.m. EST this Friday afternoon, the first snowflakes of the season are mixing with a cold rain across the area with temperatures stuck in the middle 30s. A brisk west to southwesterly flow is bringing low levels of fine particle pollution (PM2.5). Good air quality will continue through the weekend, then may turn moderate to start the workweek out ahead of the next cold front. Here are the forecast details: *** Saturday’s forecast: Low pressure moving off the east coast will allow for partly sunny skies Saturday, with perhaps more cloudiness in the afternoon. Windy with temperatures recovering to the upper 40s. Strong mixing and dispersion will allow for low levels of PM2.5. *** Sunday’s forecast: Times of clouds and sunshine and remaining breezy Sunday as highs reach close to 50 degrees. PM2.5 concentrations will rise some, but averages will stay in the good range. *** Monday’s forecast: Monday will be the mildest day of the forecast period, but with the least amount of surface flow, PM2.5 may go into the moderate threshold in parts of the area. With sunshine, highs reach the middle 50s. *** Extended forecast: A cold front crossing the area late Monday night brings showers which may linger into early Tuesday, otherwise breezy with sunshine returning along with good air quality. High pressure keeps things dry Wednesday. For Thanksgiving day, a storm system may come far enough north to bring a round of wet snow turning to rain, but also may miss to the south with the track uncertain at this time. Good air quality is expected during the mid-week period. Temperatures will trend below normal over the holiday weekend.---McAuliffe
