Current Conditions at 3 p.m. EST Friday afternoon: Fine particle pollution (PM2.5) remains in the moderate range under a mostly sunny sky and temperatures rising to near freezing. Tonight, a weak inversion will set up with a light southwest wind. This will cause a rise in PM2.5 overnight. *** Saturday’s forecast: PM2.5 will be highest Saturday morning. Concentrations will reach the mid to high moderate range for a few hours. The inversion breaks in the late morning, lowering concentrations by afternoon. Average PM2.5 levels with a west to southwest flow end up in the mid moderate range. *** Sunday’s forecast: Another inversion during the morning may again cause PM2.5 readings to be in the higher moderate category as winds are either calm or light from the south. Low to mid moderate readings are expected for the daily average. *** Monday’s forecast: Higher particle values are possible Monday morning with light and variable wind flow. Temperatures will reach the middle 40s under a partly sunny sky. *** Tuesday’s forecast: Tuesday may be a repeat of Monday with higher morning fine particle concentrations depending on inversion strength. Winds may not increase much by afternoon to allow for a great deal of dispersion, so moderate air quality will continue. *** Extended forecast: Mild air will remain with us Wednesday and Thursday, with the chance for rain showers Wednesday. Air quality should improve to the good range on these days with an ample westerly flow developing.---McAuliffe
