Current Conditions as of 3 PM on Thursday: An abnormally pleasant winter day has graced the Region with a mix of clouds and sunshine, northwesterly winds and temperatures in the 50’s. This weather won’t last long though as the next storm system approaches from the Plains tomorrow. Air quality should remain in the good range the rest of the day with some low-moderate concentrations occurring overnight. ***Friday’s Forecast: As the next system approaches the Region, scattered showers will occur by afternoon with continued warm temperatures in the 50’s due to a southerly breeze and lack of snow cover. Due to light southeasterly winds overnight into the morning hours, low- to mid-moderate PM2.5 concentrations should be expected. The afternoon and evening breezy southerly winds will start the clean the air mass out bringing hourly PM2.5 concentrations down into the good range, but the 24-hour average will remain in the moderate range. ***Extended Outlook: A second storm system approaching from the southwest will spread periods of soaking rain over the area by Saturday afternoon resulting in upper-good air quality when its raining and low-moderate concentrations when rain isn’t falling. The air quality should improve into the good range on Sunday as the next cold front sweeps through with gusty westerly winds and temperatures in the upper 40’s due to high pressure building in. Breezy conditions will stick around for Sunday night into Monday as well as lower temperatures back down to the low 40’s for Monday with continued good air quality.---VanLenten
