Current Conditions: At 2 p.m. EST this Wednesday afternoon, mid and high level clouds are increasing across the area. Fine particle (PM2.5) concentrations remain down in the good range with less wind than 24 hours ago. The pattern will get more active over the next several days, with the first system coming in late tonight into Thursday, and the other Saturday night into early Sunday. Here are the forecast details: *** Thursday’s forecast: Sleet and freezing rain likely early, then precipitation will turn to rain during the late morning and early afternoon. Lighter surface flow will allow PM2.5 to reach into the lower moderate threshold in parts of the area. High temperatures will creep up near 40 late in the afternoon. *** Extended forecast: Windy and seasonably cold Friday with the sun returning. Strong dispersion and mixing will improve PM2.5 to well down in the good range by afternoon. PM2.5 then increases again Friday night into Saturday to the moderate threshold. The next system brings a round of sleet and freezing rain turning to rain Saturday night into Sunday morning. High pressure brings a tranquil day Monday, then another storm system coming out of the Plains may affect us by the middle of next week.---McAuliffe
