Current Conditions: At 2 p.m. EST this Monday afternoon, high pressure situated to our south is bringing a westerly flow of much milder air into the area as temperatures top out in the middle 60s. Though fine particle (PM2.5) concentrations started the day moderate, enough mixing exists at present to improve afternoon air quality to the good range. PM2.5 is expected to increase tonight into the day Tuesday, but mild air will remain. A backdoor cold front coming through Tuesday night will lower temperatures by Wednesday. Here are the forecast details: *** Tuesday’s forecast: A morning inversion will elevate particle concentrations early in the day, then PM2.5 lowers some during the afternoon. Overall averages for this pollutant will end up in the moderate range as temperatures move to around the 70-degree mark for the first time this year under a mostly sunny sky. *** Extended forecast: A cooldown is expected by Wednesday as a backdoor front passes through, and winds turn easterly. This onshore flow will act to keep temperatures down and PM2.5 in the good range. In addition, there will be more cloudiness present. The cold front eventually comes back as a warm front, so a little milder air and moderate air quality may return by Friday. The next opportunity for rainfall will not come until late Saturday or Sunday with the approach of the next cold front.---McAuliffe
