Current Conditions As of 2 PM on Monday: Surface high pressure is located off the New England Coast allowing for more of a cool, maritime, east to southeast wind today. This will push the smoke from the Blue Mountain wildfire to the north. With a combination of light wind flow, and continue lack of moisture/rain, PM2.5 levels will remain in the low moderate (morning hours) to high good range (remainder of the day), except of areas immediately downwind, to the north and northwest of the Blue Mountain fire, which have experiencing high levels of PM2.5 since Saturday. *** Tuesday’s forecast: It is expected to turn warmer into the low 70’s with a southwest wind on Tuesday and low-moderate PM2.5 levels continuing. Again, depending on how quickly the wildfire is extinguished, areas downwind to the north and northeast of the wildfire could experience higher levels of PM2.5, especially in the overnight and early morning hours due to shallow inversions. *** Wednesday’s forecast: The next cold front then approaches Wednesday. Once again, this front does not look like it will produce much needed rainfall. Increasing mixing with a northwesterly wind will lead to good air quality Wednesday and Thursday. ---VanLenten
