Primary air pollutant in the Monroeville area:
PM2.5 - 71 Moderate
If you are unusually sensitive to particle pollution, consider reducing your activity level or shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors.
Current Conditions: At 3 p.m. EST this Friday afternoon, low level flow remains very light with fine particle pollution buildups. Average PM2.5 concentrations today and tonight will end up in the middle to high moderate range, and moderate air quality is expected to continue over the weekend. A cold front coming through Monday ushers in another round of cold Canadian air in it’s wake Tuesday and Wednesday. Here are the forecast details: *** Saturday’s forecast: Mostly cloudy Saturday with light snow tapering to snow showers by afternoon. While a west wind will increase during the afternoon, fine particle concentrations will remain in the moderate range, though not as high as Friday’s readings. Temperatures will top out in the upper 20s. *** Sunday’s forecast: Another day of moderate air quality is expected Sunday with the highest PM2.5 values coming during the morning due to an inversion developing along with a light south wind. Highs will reach around the 30-degree mark. *** Monday’s forecast: Increasing westerly winds will allow for PM2.5 concentrations to improve to the good range as a cold front approaches with snow showers likely. *** Extended forecast: Turning blustery and very cold Tuesday into Wednesday in the wake of Monday’s cold frontal passage. Brisk northwest winds transporting Canadian air into the region will cause wind chills to drop to near zero at times with high temperatures not getting out of the upper teens. The only upside to the long range forecast is air quality will be good.---McAuliffe
