Latest surface analysis depicts a large area of high pressure building over the area from the south, and a system beginning to develop north of the Great Lakes. The gradient between these two systems will provide warm southwest gusts today around 30 mph, and throughout most of the week. Expect skies to be sunny/mostly sunny this week until toward the end. Highs will be in the 40’s with the possibility of 50 on especially Thursday, the warmest day of the week. A system is expected to impact the area as early as Thursday night and going into Friday with likely chances for showers. 850 mb temperatures this morning are around -6C degrees. These temperatures will warm gradually through the week until they reach their highest point of 6C degrees on Thursday. Generally used a blend of the EURO/GFS and partly the NAM for the beginning of the period. The Firework smoke model shows very little if at all anything, so no impacts for the Hoosier state. The Canadian model is going with Good through the forecast period, probably because of the gusty winds. The 06Z NOAA Model is also going with Good straight across the board for both sites. I think these models match up well with the forecast, the snowpack if not gone, is sufficiently depleted in most locations, and while the area can expect sunny skies this week, the pressure gradient between the two systems will create so much breezy/gusty conditions that when you factor in all this and the warming temperatures, it will be hard for PM2.5 growth. Then there is rain at the end of the period, so planning on going with Good for the entire forecast period.
