Weather Forecast Discussion Current 12Z surface analysis depicts a cold front currently moving across the state. It has triggered light snow and drizzle over much of the area since the overnight and is currently ongoing over the eastern half of the counties. This front will move out of the state later this morning/early afternoon, leaving behind some lingering chances for flurries/drizzle. Winds during this period will be gusty today with the cold front and post frontal passage, then at or below 10 mph for the rest of the period. Then cool high pressure will build over the area from the north, ushering in more cold temperatures into the area for the weekend. Highs will be in the lower 30’s this weekend and lows in the lower 20’s. For Monday with the high pressure system still over the area, winds become more southerly, and temperatures begin to warm. Highs on Monday will be in the lower 40’s. During this time, a warm front is projected to lift over the state during the day and make kick off a few showers, especially during the afternoon hours. As for cloud conditions, while mostly cloudy skies are expected for Saturday, mostly sunny skies are expected to return on Sunday, and then clouds building in for Monday. The 500 mb jet starts off the period over the Dakota’s, moving to the south of Indiana and offshore of the Outer Banks. This jet pushes eastward into the weekend and weakens. This weakened jet lies to the north of the area by Monday. 850 mb temperatures start off cold this morning around -5C. They’ll get down to -11C during the overnights this weekend, then start to warm up on Monday to around 3C. 700 mb vorticity starts off the period with a trough moving through the area which exits off the coast of the Carolina’s later in the day. Then the period gets fairly quiet, and the next vorticity maximum is one on Monday swinging through the southern Great Lakes region. Generally used a blend of the EURO/GFS and partly the NAM for the beginning of the period. Air Quality model analysis and decision Fine Particulate: The Firework smoke model shows nothing but a few faint plumes across a couple parts of the country, particularly across the Pacific northwest, northeast, and Mid-west states, including Indiana. There will be no impact on the Hoosier state. The Canadian model is going with Good for the period. The 06Z NOAA Model is going with straight Good’s, aside from today’s believed to be fluke Moderate for Indianapolis. Considering the area will get cleaned out good by tonight for the weekend, then the next system arrives Monday, went Good for the entire period.
