Daily Air Quality Forecast for Trafalgar, Indiana

Weather Analysis and Air Quality Forecasting Decisions: Ozone:  Monitoring for ozone began March 1st but forecasting will begin when conditions become more favorable. Fine Particulate:  Latest surface analysis as of around 12Z this morning depicts a warm front to the north of the area close to the Indiana/Michigan border. That’s part of what is causing these warm temperatures today and warm air advection. Currently temperatures are in the low to mid 60s, and highs are expected in the mid-70s later today. Clouds and fog should alleviate this afternoon. Showers and storms will be possible today through Saturday, with a marginal (level 1 of 5) threat for severe storms. The primary window for severe storms would be late tonight into early Saturday, though an isolated severe storm cannot be ruled out today into this evening. Then more of the same rainy conditions across the area for Saturday as a cold front is projected to move across the area. The front is expected to clear the area by Saturday evening, and conditions will then be dry for a short period (through Monday.) High temperatures on Sunday with be around 60 and sunny, and as the area gets into the return flow, closer to around 70 and sunny for Sunday. The start of this forecasting period is looking at cloudy conditions and chances for rain and then ending on a dry and mostly sunny warm note. Winds may be breezy and gust up to 20 mph at times during the period but otherwise stay at or below this threshold. Mixing heights this afternoon and tomorrow will be 2500 ft. Then mixing heights of around 3500 ft can be expected for Sunday and finally 5400 ft for Monday. The 06Z NOAA Model is going with Good straight across the board for both sites, which makes sense since most of this period will be pretty active and then get well cleaned out mid-weekend. Will therefore be going with Good straight through the period for both sites.
