Fine Particulate: Latest surface analysis depicts light to moderate snow overspreading the area with the cold front not too far behind. This front is projected to move across the area today bringing the best chances for snow to the area during the afternoon and evening hours. Three to four inches of snow can be expected by late tonight/early Saturday morning. The 850 mb temperatures are around -6C this morning and drop a bit over the next 24 hours, and then rebound over the weekend. However, Monday at 12Z 850 mb temperatures will be back down to -11C in consideration for the next cold front/clipper-like system to move across the area. Saturday and Sunday will generally be mostly cloudy with highs around 30. Winds begin to gusty as high as 20 mph as a warm front lifts north across the state early Sunday and continues to be gusty on Sunday night into early Monday with the passage of a weak cold front. Moisture and dynamics are not quite coming together for some measurable snow early next week, so only slight chances for snow right now for Sunday night into early Monday, and possibly a wintry mix. Generally used a blend of the EURO/GFS and partly the NAM for the beginning of the period. The Firework smoke model shows very little if at all anything, so no impacts for the Hoosier state. The Canadian model is going with Good for the period. The 06Z NOAA Model is going with straight Moderate’s which I find suspect. We have a minor snow event today, then tomorrow after the event it will be mostly cloudy, then Sunday it will be mostly cloudy AND gusty. These are not conditions conducive to Moderate just because you have a snowpack. Same goes for Monday as well, mostly cloudy with gusty winds the night before and during the day. Not to mention a little clipper-like system possibly affecting the area Sunday night into early Monday. It would be difficult to get elevated PM2.5 and I’m not sure what the NOAA model is doing. So after careful consideration will stick closer to the Canadian model and go with Good throughout the period.
