Other Pollutants:
PM2.5 - 21 Good
PM2.5 over the past few days has been mostly good, with a handful of moderate readings. Ozone was all good Friday through Sunday, then rose to mostly moderate on Monday, with two USG readings near the lake shore and all good readings for the northeast region. Today will bring temperatures reaching near 80 degrees at the warmest. Skies will be mostly cloudy and winds will be primarily from the east, reaching speeds around 5 mph. Mixing heights will rise above 4000 ft. Tomorrow will bring similar temperatures as cloud cover decreases slightly. Mixing heights will rise to around 5000 ft and winds will shift to be primarily from the north, reaching speeds over 5 mph. Temperatures will decrease on Thursday as a front moves in from the north, with highs in the low 70's. Cloud cover will decrease as well during this time and winds will be primarily from the northeast, reaching speeds near 10 mph with gusts over 20 mph. Mixing heights will reach around 5000 ft again at most. These conditions will continue on Friday, with highs in the low 70's and mostly sunny skies. Winds will be primarily from the north as wind speeds drop back below 10 mph and mixing heights will reach as high as 4000 ft. The NOAA 6Z BC PM2.5 model shows a mix of good and moderate over the next few days, with an increased amount of moderate compared to recent values. The Canadian, on the other hand, shows all good. With relatively light winds and a break from the rain, moderate PM2.5 buildup will continue to be possible for a couple more days. Both ozone models show mostly good today, mostly moderate tomorrow, and good again on Thursday. Model guidance also indicates a small region of USG level ozone near the lake on Wednesday, similar to what was observed on Monday. With relatively light winds and temperatures near 80 degrees, higher ozone values will be possible. The greatest concern for ozone buildup will on Wednesday near the lake shore, as winds shift to be from the north, potentially pulling ozone precursors from the lake. USG level ozone buildup will be possible in northwest Indiana during this time. After Wednesday, however, winds will pick up, temperatures will decrease, and a front from the north will be making its way through the region, making ozone buildup much less likely.
