The main weather story this week will be the heat. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for today through Friday, with daily highs at/around the 105°F mark. Take proper precautions to beat the heat!
The overall weather pattern responsible for the heat will also allow local ozone levels to increase. Light winds and sunny skies will favor ozone formation. Ozone reached the Moderate AQI category yesterday at a handful of Tucson monitors, and for now, ozone is forecast in the Moderate AQI category throughout this week.
Furthermore, the monsoon will slowly start to return. At least initially, moisture is not looking all that impressive. So, thunderstorms that are able to make it into Tucson won't produce a lot of rain. That could change later in the week, though.
Nevertheless, gusty winds from distant or nearby storms will be possible. Clouds will be present with any thunderstorms, too. The winds could cause brief dust; the clouds could help to disrupt and limit ozone, if they arrive soon enough in the afternoon.
