PM10 (dust) and PM2.5 (smoke) levels have been super low this morning, thanks to the widespread rain around southeastern Arizona yesterday, and possibly rain this morning. The Nogales International Airport has logged in about an inch of rainfall.
Today, another low-pressure wave will impact the state, but this time, out of the north. Rainfall will be less in amount and duration than yesterday, primarily focused ahead/along a cold front expected to pass through later this afternoon/evening. Additionally, today will be a much windier day, as winds increase ahead of the front. Fortunately, the recent rain will help to prevent dust from the stronger winds.
Winds will then take a brief break tonight into Friday morning, which may allow PM2.5 levels to increase some. However, by the afternoon, and really, through the weekend, we'll enter into a breezy period. Overnight breezes will help to limit local PM2.5 levels.
Overall, recent and upcoming rain, along with upcoming breezes, will help to keep PM10 and PM2.5 levels low.
Check back tomorrow for the next forecast.
