Primary air pollutant in the Great Cacapon area:
PM2.5 - 30 Good
Enjoy your outdoor activities.
Winds will turn a bit breezy over the weekend as an intensifying low pressure system moves off the East Coast. Ample surface mixing and a clean residual air mass will ensure Good air quality statewide both Saturday and Sunday. High pressure will strengthen over the Southeastern US Monday allowing winds to weaken and mixing heights to lower. This along with the development of overnight and early morning surface inversions will help push fine particulate levels into the threshold Good to Low Moderate range. Highest concentrations will be focused along the I-95 corridor. A frontal system is expected to drop south through the state Tuesday. An influx of cleaner, drier air will help lower fine particulates back into the Good AQI range across the state, persisting into Wednesday. Residents in St. Mary’s County, particularly in and around the Hollywood area may experience locally higher concentrations over the forecast period as a mulch fire nearby continues to smolder. MDE encourages residents near the fire or within drifting smoke to limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially those who are more sensitive to air quality effects such as children, the elderly and immuno-compromised. This guidance will likely remain in place until the fire is completely extinguished and there is no more smoke. For the latest air quality information, please visit our website here. -MDE
