OZONE - 28 Good
Enjoy your outdoor activities.
Other Pollutants:
PM2.5 - 20 Good
Winds slacken on Wednesday, but generally Good air quality persists as regionally clean air continues to funnel into the region on northerly winds not allowing the local airmass to degrade significantly over the course of the day. Then a storm system arrives Wednesday night into Thursday. A wintery mix arriving with the storm should initially help to scour fine particle pollution on Thursday, but during the afternoon warm air riding above the cold surface air will create a strong surface inversion which will trap pollutants. Along with some afternoon/evening fog development, fine particle concentrations will increase. Averaged over the day, the precipitation and inversion development largely offset. However, Moderate AQI for the daily average will likely be established during the afternoon and evening hours Thursday, prior to the passage of another cold front very late Thursday into the early morning on Friday. Behind the cold front on Friday, cooler temperatures along with cleaner air quality return, leading to Good AQI. Aside from these regional influences, residents in St. Mary’s County in and around the Hollywood area may experience locally higher fine particle concentrations over the forecast period as a mulch fire nearby continues to smolder. MDE encourages residents near the fire or within drifting smoke to limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially those who are more sensitive to air quality effects such as children, the elderly and the immuno-compromised. This guidance will remain in place until the fire is completely extinguished and there is no more smoke. For the latest air quality information, please visit our website here. -MDE
