As of Monday mid-afternoon, the Midlands, the Upstate, the Central Savannah River Area, and Catawba are trending toward Code Yellow for ground-level ozone concentration while the remaining forecast zones will likely stay close to the Green/Yellow threshold for the rest of the day. An approaching dry cold front is expected to pass through South Carolina on Tuesday with the high-pressure system currently over the Great Lakes region following it. This setup, which is accompanied by a building upper-level ridge, supports sunny skies and the continuation of low relative humidity across the state. Temperatures look to remain near normal for this time of year with highs in the 70s and lows in the low to mid-50s. Furthermore, much of the state should feel a breeze in the morning which could potentially shift toward light and variable during the afternoon; however, winds are likely to be consistently breezy along the coast. These variables, in addition to the dry air mass currently present, support an increase in ground-level ozone; therefore, the ozone forecast for Tuesday projects all forecast zones to peak at CODE YELLOW.
