As of Wednesday afternoon, all forecast regions are trending towards a code green finish, with the exception of the Upstate trending towards a code yellow finish. For Thursday, the shifting pattern aloft will play a role in the increased potential for ozone generation. Clear skies are expected to dominate proceedings. Winds at a light breeze will be predominantly from the West throughout the day. Near still winds are a possibility in the Catawba and Upstate regions. With the Northern regional wind this light, it is conceivable that isolated areas of increased concentrations are recorded. A healthy amount of environmental moisture will persist as it has for much of this week. Similarly, the atmospheric instability might just be enough for the development of afternoon/evening thunderstorms once again. Surface high pressure will settle in for the rest of the work week. Forecast regions Catawba, Midlands, and the Upstate are expected to peak in code YELLOW, with the remaining three regions expected to peak in code GREEN for Thursday.
