Friday, May 8: As surface high pressure passes to the south, light to moderate southwesterly winds will transport regional pollutants into northeastern Ohio. However, winds will be strong enough to aid dispersion, allowing AQI levels to remain Good. Saturday, May 9 through Monday, May 11: A series of upper-level low pressure systems will pass over the Mahoning Valley, promoting vertical mixing. In addition, clouds and periods of rain showers each day will limit ozone development. Thus, AQI levels will continue to be Good on all three days. Tuesday, a ridge of high pressure aloft will limit atmospheric mixing. In addition, calm to light west-northwesterly winds will hinder dispersion in Youngstown-Warren. However, pollutant carryover from the previous days will be low. Therefore, AQI levels will be high-Good. Wednesday, scattered showers and thunderstorms will enhance atmospheric mixing as a surface low-pressure system moves across the state. Furthermore, moderate winds will disperse pollutants, leading to Good AQI levels.
