Thursday, January 8: A passing ridge of high pressure aloft will limit vertical mixing. At the surface, south-southeasterly winds will carry regional pollutants into the state. Thus, AQI levels will be mid-Moderate. Friday, January 9: As a cold front traverses the Buckeye State, moderate and gusty westerly to west-northwesterly winds will transport moisture and pollutants into the Ohio Valley, keeping particle concentrations elevated. Therefore, AQI levels will be low-Moderate. Saturday, a deep trough of low pressure aloft over the western Great Lakes will enhance atmospheric mixing. However, light westerly to west-southwesterly winds will reduce pollutant dispersion, and high humidity will promote particle formation. Thus, AQI levels will remain low-Moderate. Sunday through Tuesday, as a front departs and surface high pressure develops to the south, moderate and gusty westerly to southwesterly winds throughout much of the period will aid dispersion in central Ohio. In addition, carryover from day to day will be low. As a result, AQI levels will be Good on all three days.
