Thursday, January 8: A passing ridge of high pressure aloft will limit vertical mixing. At the surface, south-southeasterly winds will carry regional pollutants into the state. Friday, January 9: As a cold front traverses the Buckeye State, moderate and gusty westerly to west-northwesterly winds will transport moisture and pollutants into the Ohio Valley, keeping particle concentrations elevated. Therefore, AQI levels will be low-Moderate. Saturday, a deep trough of low pressure aloft over the western Great Lakes will enhance atmospheric mixing. However, light westerly to west-southwesterly winds will reduce pollutant dispersion, and high humidity will promote particle formation. Thus, AQI levels will remain low-Moderate. Sunday through Tuesday, as a front departs and surface high pressure develops to the south, moderate and gusty westerly to southwesterly winds throughout much of the period will aid dispersion in central Ohio.
