Friday, November 22: Moderate and gusty west-northwesterly winds will effectively disperse pollutants and transport clean air into central Ohio as a cold low pressure system slowly departs through New England. In addition, periods of precipitation will promote atmospheric mixing, leading to Good AQI levels. Saturday, November 23: Light to moderate northwesterly winds will continue to aid dispersion in the Columbus region as a surface ridge of high-pressure approaches from the west. Therefore, AQI levels will continue to be Good. Sunday, as the surface ridge slowly pushes across central Ohio, lighter southwesterly to southerly winds will hinder dispersion and gradually carry pollutants into the Columbus region. However, low pollutant carryover from the previous days will allow AQI levels to remain high-Good. Monday, increasing relative humidity will promote particle formation early in the day as a cold front approaches. In addition, light to moderate southwesterly winds will transport regional pollutants into central Ohio. However, moderate westerly winds will disperse pollutants late in the day as the cold front moves through the Columbus region, leading to another day of high-Good AQI levels. Tuesday, moderate westerly winds will bring clean air into the Buckeye State behind the departing cold front, resulting in Good AQI levels. Wednesday, as surface high pressure moves directly over the Columbus region, winds will become light and variable, leading to pollutant build-up. Furthermore, an overnight temperature inversion will reduce atmospheric mixing. As a result, AQI levels will increase to low-Moderate.
