Wednesday, November 20: Calm to light southerly winds during the morning hours will allow pollutants to accumulate in Youngstown-Warren. In addition, a morning temperature inversion will trap pollutants near the ground. However, as a cold front moves across Ohio, mixing will increase, while strengthening westerly winds and rain showers in the afternoon will aid dispersion. Thus, AQI levels will be high-Good. Thursday, November 21 through Saturday, November 23: As surface low pressure gradually departs eastward and high pressure builds to the west, gusty southwesterly to northwesterly winds will effectively disperse pollutants and transport clean, cool air into northeastern Ohio. Additionally, rain and snow showers will support atmospheric mixing. These conditions will yield Good AQI levels on all three days. Sunday, as surface high pressure moves through the Buckeye State, light southwesterly winds will reduce dispersion through the morning hours. However, winds will strengthen in the afternoon as a cold front approaches from the west, keeping the lower levels of the atmosphere well mixed and leading to high-Good AQI levels. Monday, a passing cold front will enhance mixing and produce moderate westerly winds in the Mahoning Valley, dispersing pollutants and keeping AQI levels Good.
