Primary air pollutant in the Wentworth area:
PM2.5 - 53 Moderate
If you are unusually sensitive to particle pollution, consider reducing your activity level or shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors.
Other Pollutants:
OZONE - 31 Good
PM10 - 24 Good
The open burning ban issued by the NC Forest Service remains in effect until further notice. Ozone concentrations are responding to the sunshine and dry, stagnating air mass this afternoon with readings pushing into the middle to upper Code Yellow range. Particle pollution readings are lower near the Code Green/Yellow threshold. Air quality is not expected to improve through the first half of the weekend as high pressure drifts southeastward offshore, extending into our area. Numerous wildfires are ongoing across the broader region, including some particularly large wildfires across the Deep South. Flow around the aforementioned high pressure will begin to circulate smoke from these fires across the Southeast and into our area. The greatest potential for a more significant slug of smoke looks to arrive on Friday and especially Saturday as trajectories take more of a direct southwesterly track rather than arcing out over the OH and TN Valleys. It is currently unclear exactly how far north the denser smoke will make it before a cold front passes through on Saturday night. For now, particle pollution readings are expected to increase each day, reaching the mid Code Yellow range by Saturday. But fine tuning will be necessary as the details become clearer. With mainly sunny skies on tap and a warm, smoky air mass in place, ozone production will be quite elevated, reaching the mid to perhaps upper Code Yellow range for the next three days.
