Air Quality Index for New Jersey

The highest AQ index in New Jersey (as of 9:00 EDT) is currently the Central area. Particle Pollution (PM2.5) is measuring at 71 (Moderate). This means air quality is acceptable. However, there may be a risk for some people, particularly those who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.

Over the next few days, the highest Ozone (OZONE) will be in the Monmouth County area. It is forecasted to be Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups, meaning members of sensitive groups may experience health effects. The general public is less likely to be affected.

7/5 - The chance for scattered showers/thunderstorms and a hot humid air mass can be expected today as low pressure pushes in from the west. However, any breaks in cloud cover and a light south-southwest flow will allow ozone levels to reach the moderate category statewide, with the chance for isolated Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) along the I-95 corridor and in northern New Jersey. Additionally, levels of fine particulate will remain in the moderate category statewide, with elevated levels expected in the morning hours along the I-95 corridor as a result of firework celebrations. These elevated levels are expected to gradually dissipate throughout the day and fall back into the moderate category. 7/6 - Low pressure pushing into the region will allow for variable winds, partly sunny skies, and a continued chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms. As a result, ozone levels will remain in the moderate category statewide, with the potential for isolated areas of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) in northern New Jersey. Fine particulate levels will remain in the moderate category statewide aside from coastal locations in central and southern New Jersey. 7/7 - An Air Quality Action Day for Ozone has been declared for Sunday, July 7th! Sensitive individuals, including the very young, the elderly, and persons with respiratory diseases such as asthma, should avoid strenuous activities during the afternoon and early evening hours. Light variable winds, warm temperatures reaching the upper-80s to low-90s, and ample sunshine on Sunday will allow ozone levels to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) category along the I-95 corridor and in central and northern New Jersey. Additionally, fine particulate concentrations will reach the moderate category statewide due to a stagnant air mass and lingering humidity. 7/8 - Ozone levels are forecast to remain in the upper moderate category for northern New Jersey on Monday due to light south-southeast winds, partly sunny skies, and warm temperatures. Fine particulates will remain in the moderate category statewide.
