Light easterly winds and limited dispersion will continue Friday, and elevated fine particle levels will linger across the southern half of the state. Air quality in the Yellow (Moderate) category is expected for southern MN on Friday. Air quality in the Green (Good) category is expected for the rest of the state. Smoke production from western U.S. wildfires has decreased slightly and by Saturday this should translate to improving air quality for much of the state. Winds will become southerly Saturday as a low pressure system moves into the state. This should bring cleaner air into southwestern MN. A narrow band of slightly elevated fine particle levels may linger across southeast and central MN, and air quality in the Yellow category is likely to continue for this part of the state. Air quality should be in the Green category for the remainder of the state. A cold front will move across the state Saturday night and bring a new, cleaner airmass into the state. Air quality should return to the Green category statewide on Sunday. Air quality should remain in the Green category for most of the state Monday, except for the Twin Cities metro where Moderate air quality is possible due to ozone.
