An active weather pattern is expected which may produce rapidly changing air quality conditions over the next couple days. Winds will become southerly on Friday and a warmer airmass with high relative humidity will move into the southern half of the state. This environment may become favorable for increasing fine particle levels, particularly across the Twin Cities metro area. Air quality will likely remain in the Green AQI category for most of the state Friday, but fine particle levels may increase enough across the Twin Cities during the afternoon to produce air quality in the Yellow (Moderate) category there. A cold front will move across the state late Friday and will pull in a colder and drier airmass into the region. Air quality should quickly improve by the end of the day. Air quality should return to the Green category statewide Saturday and remain Green through the weekend.
