A strong low pressure system will move into western MN on Monday. Gusty southerly winds are transporting wind-blown dust from the Southern Plains into southern MN. This will produce air quality in the Yellow (moderate) category for fine particles across the southern one-third of the state. Air quality in the Green (good) category is expected for the rest of the state. Widespread cloud cover will keep ozone levels low, however. A cold front will move through the state overnight and winds will be from the northwest on Tuesday. This will usher in a cleaner airmass and air quality should return to the Green category statewide. Southerly winds will return Wednesday. Sunny skies and seasonal temperatures are expected statewide. Conditions will be favorable for some ozone formation across the Twin Cities, and Yellow AQI values are possible, particularly across the northern suburbs Wednesday. A cold front will move across the state on Thursday. Winds will be southerly for most of the day across southeast MN, and fine particle levels may rise in this region until the front passes. Air quality in the Yellow category is possible across southeast MN Thursday.
