PM2.5: 24-hour average fine particulates are expected to range between Good (AQI Green) to Moderate (AQI Yellow). Ozone: 8-hour average Ozone Particulate concentrations are also expected to be a mix of Good (AQI Green) to Moderate (AQI Yellow). FORECAST DISCUSSION Following a tranquil week in Air Quality, we are expecting a similar week with a mixture of Good and Moderate concentrations state-wide. High pressure is firmly settled over the Midwest to begin the week with mostly sunny skies and light winds expected. Sunny conditions are expected to continue into Tuesday with winds shifting to a southwest direction causing a slight increase of temperatures in to mid-80’s and dew points into the low-60’s. As a result, there is a chance to see ozone concentrations creep into the High Moderate range. A slow-moving front is expected to crawl across the state during Wednesday creating the possibility for showers Wednesday and into Thursday morning. The potential for severe weather is low with dry conditions moving back in Thursday night and into Friday. With the historical Canadian wildfire smoke of a few weeks ago still fresh in our minds, it is only natural to watch the large fires burning in Oregon and Washington and wonder if it will affect Michigan. So far, we have had negligible effects at the surface, although we are expecting a decent layer of smoke in the elevated atmosphere. This will result in a dimmer sun with colorful sunrises and sunsets. Historically, this has been the effect of western wildfires upon Michigan until recently, when the large Canadian fires have migrated eastward and closer to us. Fortunately, although those nearby fires continue to burn in Canada, recent rains have knocked back the intensity of those fires along with their smoke potential. EXTENDED FORECAST: Air Quality is expected to be to range between Good and Moderate to start the weekend.
