FORECAST DISCUSSION: “Rinse and repeat.” “Like a broken record.” “Cut and paste.” Just a few idioms that describe forecasting the weather and air quality this previous week and into the weekend ahead. Picturesque fall weather has been in store for the past two weeks and more looks to be on the horizon. High-pressure has been hanging around the region which has been providing the clear skies and above normal temperatures we have been experiencing. As we Michiganders wake up on Saturday, we will be greeted by patchy areas of fog which will burn off as the sun rises throughout the morning. For the lower peninsula, partly sunny skies will be present as an encroaching cold front slowly moves in from the west. For the upper peninsula, mostly cloudy skies should be expected with a slight chance of a pop-up rain shower in the evening. The cold front will be over the upper peninsula come Sunday morning, but any substantial rain associated with the front will quickly dissipate as dry air will be present to evaporate any precipitation. Temperatures take a slight dip Sunday and Monday but quickly rebound next week as southerly flow returns. For air quality, the Ozone season officially ends next Saturday and will be a non-issue this weekend and next week. PM2.5 concentrations will continue to ebb and flow as we shift between northerly and southerly flow. At worst, low-to-mid Moderate concentrations of PM2.5 should be expected. EXTENDED FORECAST: Above average temperatures continue into next week as air quality remains in the Good to Moderate range.
