Wednesday, upper-level high pressure will hinder mixing, while light southwesterly to southerly winds will transport a thick plume of Saharan dust across the Bayou State, keeping particle concentrations elevated. Therefore, AQI levels will be high-Moderate in central and western Louisiana, with mid-Moderate AQI levels elsewhere. Thursday, calm to light morning winds will inhibit dispersion, allowing Saharan dust to accumulate. By the afternoon, light southwesterly winds will recirculate dust into western and northern Louisiana, increasing particle levels. These conditions, combined with high carryover from the previous day, will yield Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups AQI levels in Shreveport and mid- to high-Moderate AQI levels throughout the rest of the state. Friday, westerly to west-southwesterly winds will slightly strengthen in the afternoon, which will begin to disperse the Saharan dust plume. However, carryover of dust from the previous two days will lead to high-Moderate AQI levels in Shreveport and low- to mid-Moderate AQI levels elsewhere.
