Friday and Saturday, an area of low pressure over the western Gulf will produce clouds and rain showers over the southern portion of the state, reducing ozone production. In addition, light to moderate east-northeasterly winds will increase mixing and dispersion across Louisiana. However, these winds will also transport thin-density smoke into the northern and central part of the state, increasing particle concentrations slightly. As a result, AQI levels in Alexandria, Shreveport, and Monroe will be high-Good to low-Moderate on both days. Over southern Louisiana, AQI levels will be Good to high-Good on both days. Sunday, as the low pressure system deepens over the western Gulf, moderate northeasterly winds will effectively disperse pollutants and transport cleaner air into Louisiana. Therefore, despite mostly sunny skies supporting ozone formation, AQI levels will be Good statewide.
