Thursday, a surface low pressure system will move across the northern Gulf, producing periods of moderate easterly to northerly winds and widespread rainfall. These conditions will effectively disperse pollutants, leading to Good AQI levels statewide. Friday, northerly winds will weaken throughout the day as surface high pressure builds in from the north, reducing dispersion and gradually transporting regional pollutants into Louisiana. In addition, a temperature inversion will trap pollutants in the lower levels of the atmosphere. As a result, AQI levels will be high-Good to low-Moderate. Saturday, calm overnight winds and a morning inversion will lead to pollutant build-up across the Bayou State. Additionally, light south-southeasterly afternoon winds will limit pollutant dispersion. These conditions will allow AQI levels to increase to low-Moderate statewide.
