Friday, as a cold front departs the state, moderate and gusty north-northwesterly winds will develop. While these winds will aid dispersion across much of the state, they will also transport thin-density smoke from fires in the southern Plains into northern Louisiana, keeping particle levels elevated. Therefore, AQI levels will be Good to high-Good statewide. Saturday, upper-level high pressure west of the state will reduce vertical mixing. In addition, light and variable winds will limit pollutant dispersion, while sunny skies will support ozone production. As a result, AQI levels will be high-Good to mid-Moderate. Sunday, calm morning winds will reduce pollutant dispersion over much of the Bayou State. Furthermore, mostly sunny skies will continue to support ozone formation. However, light to moderate southerly winds will develop in the afternoon as a low pressure system passes to the north, enhancing dispersion and keeping AQI levels high-Good to low-Moderate.
