Saturday, light southerly winds ahead of an approaching cold front will hinder pollutant dispersion. In addition, lingering thin-density smoke from agricultural fires will contribute to particle levels in some areas. Therefore, AQI levels will be high-Good to low-Moderate in most cities. Sunday, as a cold front departs to the south, moderate and gusty north-northeasterly winds will develop. These winds will increase dispersion and carry cleaner, cooler air into the Bayou State. As a result, AQI levels will be Good to high-Good. Monday, as surface high pressure moves southward into the Bayou State, northeasterly winds will weaken, becoming calm in the afternoon and evening. Additionally, morning and evening temperatures in the mid-20s to low-30s will produce a strong inversion, trapping pollutants in the lower levels of the atmosphere. These conditions will lead to high-Good to low-Moderate AQI levels statewide.
