Wednesday, warm temperatures and partly to mostly sunny skies will aid ozone development over Louisiana. In addition, light westerly to southerly winds will hinder dispersion through much of the day, allowing pollutants to linger over the state. However, a humid, unstable air mass will produce scattered showers and thunderstorms, enhancing atmospheric mixing and limiting ozone production in some locations. As a result, AQI levels will range from Good to low-Moderate. Thursday, a warm and humid air mass will continue to promote low-level mixing over Louisiana. Additionally, southwesterly winds will strengthen slightly, aiding pollutant dispersion. However, mostly sunny skies will continue to support ozone production over much of the state. Therefore, AQI levels will remain high-Good to low-Moderate. Friday, mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low- to mid-90s will enhance ozone formation in the Bayou State. Furthermore, light southerly winds will limit dispersion and gradually transport a thin plume of Saharan dust into the region, increasing particle concentrations. These conditions will lead to low-Moderate AQI levels in most cities.
