Weather Analysis and Air Quality Forecasting Decisions: Ozone:  Ozone forecast season begins again March 1st, 2025. Fine Particulate:  Clear, cool and calm this morning with temperatures already into the 20's. The GFS shows strong zonal winds aloft and surface high pressure moving through the southern plains will bring warmer conditions over the next couple days. Surface winds will be from the west to southwest gusting into the upper-teens with highs reaching about 50 Tuesday and Wednesday. Light and variable winds overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning as a surface high moves off to the east. Thursday a storm moves northwestward out of Texas, bringing warm air advection aloft resulting in low mixing heights. Thursday evening heavy rain will begin eventually resulting in more than one inch of rain by late Friday. The weekend will continue with highs still in the 50's. The NOAA PM2.5 forecast has a borderline Good/Moderate for Tuesday with a Good for Wednesday. The Canadian Smoke model shows a touch of smoke with their particulate model registering very little. The presence of a strong jet to our north and occasionally gusty surface winds should keep readings Good now through Wednesday, while heavy rains will wash out anything late Thursday and Friday. However, the GFS model shows very short mixing heights less than 500 meters Thursday with warm air overrunning. This is conversative because once the rains begin in earnest Thursday, air quality will improve.
