Daily Air Quality Forecast for Sandy Springs, Georgia

Special Air Quality Statement - the air quality forecasts, including today's, are representative only of two criteria pollutants, ozone and fine particulate matter, for which National Ambient Air Quality Standards have been established and networks of air quality monitors long have been deployed across the State of Georgia. Earlier this week, a fire at a chemical plant in Rockdale County located on the eastern side of the metropolitan Atlanta area released a plume of smoke and chemicals into the air. While the fire was contained relatively quickly, resulting in only a brief but very high spike in particulate matter concentrations on 9/30/2024, the incident has resulted in continued emissions related to ongoing cleanup efforts at the facility. The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and the US EPA are leading the response to this ongoing air quality issue. More specific information from these organizations related to the incident can be found at, https://gema.georgia.gov/rockdale-county-biolab-fire-1 https://www.epa.gov/ga/conyers-ga-biolab-fire For areas directly impacted by the BioLab incident, people are encouraged to follow GEMA and US EPA advisories and instructions. For everyone else in the metro Atlanta area, the regular air quality forecasts apply. MEC
