Sunday, March 8 is a Wood Stove Curtailment Day. Wood stove burning is prohibited unless you are burning seasoned wood in a registered EPA-compliant wood stove with phase two emissions control technology or better. For more information on registering your wood heating device please contact NSAQMD at 530-832-0102. Sunday, March 8: A ridge of high pressure aloft will limit atmospheric mixing over northern California. Additionally, light and variable winds will hinder dispersion in Portola, leading to mid-Moderate AQI levels. Monday, March 9: Light winds and a temperature inversion will hinder low-level mixing during the morning hours. However, increasing westerly winds will aid dispersion during the afternoon and evening as the ridge aloft shifts to the south. Therefore, AQI levels will improve to low-Moderate. Tuesday, as a weak cold front traverses northern California, mixing will improve slightly. In addition, light to moderate westerly winds will gradually disperse pollutants and bring cleaner air into the Portola region, keeping AQI levels low-Moderate. Wednesday and Thursday, as surface high pressure builds across northern California, calm to light westerly winds will limit pollutant dispersion in Portola. Additionally, morning and evening temperature inversions will confine pollutants near the surface, leading to mid-Moderate AQI levels on both days. Friday, the surface ridge of high pressure will weaken over the northern Sierras, with westerly winds promoting mixing and dispersion during the day. Therefore, AQI levels will improve to low-Moderate.
