Enjoy your outdoor activities.
Saturday, April 18: A morning temperature inversion will trap pollutants near the ground, and calm to light southwesterly winds throughout the day will reduce pollutant dispersion. However, mixing will increase in the afternoon as surface temperatures warm. These conditions will lead to low-Moderate AQI levels. Sunday, April 19 and Monday, April 20: Atmospheric mixing will increase as a low pressure system deepens off the California Coast. Furthermore, periods of moderate southerly to southwesterly winds each afternoon will effectively disperse pollutants, yielding Good AQI levels on both days. Tuesday and Wednesday, a deep trough of low pressure moving through the Portola region will continue to enhance mixing, while periods of precipitation and gusty southwesterly winds will disperse pollutants. Therefore, AQI levels will remain Good on both days. Thursday, as surface high pressure builds in the wake of the departing low pressure system, calm to light northerly winds will reduce dispersion, allowing pollutants to accumulate in Portola. However, low pollutant carryover from previous days will lead to high-Good AQI levels.
