December 4 – December 8: A COLD WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued for the Central Coast through 8 AM, Friday. Low-pressure juxtaposed with building high pressure over the Pacific has created a sharp offshore pressure gradient which is the main driver of breezy conditions yesterday and today. As the low moves off to the east and high-pressure builds. Expect this gradient to relax and winds to diminish along with a rise in temperatures. Temperatures will range from the high-30s to the mid-60s at the coast and low-30s to the high-60s inland. Ozone levels should remain below State standards; therefore, ozone AQIs will remain GOOD. A reduction in wind speeds through the weekend will keep PM10 (dust) AQIs in the Salinas Valley at GOOD as well. As high pressure builds and wind speeds diminish, expect a deterioration in ventilation. This could bring PM2.5 AQI (smoke) levels to MODERATE and UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS (USG), especially in the districts Smoke Sensitive Areas (San Lorenzo Valley and Carmel Valley). This will be further exacerbated by woodsmoke usage particularly in the SLV.
