Saturday, as an upper-level ridge of high pressure persists over northern California, atmospheric mixing will be limited. At the surface, a temperature inversion will confine emissions to the lower levels of the atmosphere. Additionally, calm to light winds throughout the day will reduce pollutant dispersion. These conditions will result in mid-Moderate particle levels. Sunday and Monday, as the aloft ridge of high pressure gradually weakens and departs to the east, atmospheric mixing will improve slightly over the Sacramento region. However, light and variable winds will continue to limit pollutant dispersion. Furthermore, a low-level inversion will trap pollutants near the ground throughout the period. As a result, particle levels will remain mid-Moderate on both days.
