Thursday and Friday, upper-level high pressure building off the California coast will inhibit vertical mixing in the atmosphere. At the surface, temperature inversions during the evening and overnight hours will trap pollutants near the ground. Additionally, light easterly to southeasterly winds throughout much of the period will limit dispersion. These conditions will yield mid-Moderate particle levels on both days. Saturday, mixing will improve as an upper-level trough of low pressure passes east of the state. In addition, moderate to gusty north-northwesterly winds will develop, effectively dispersing pollutants in the Sacramento Valley. Thus, particle levels will be high-Good.
