Daily Air Quality Forecast for Valley Ranch, California

Sunday, November 24 is a Wood Stove Curtailment Day. Wood stove burning is prohibited unless you are burning seasoned wood in a registered EPA-compliant wood stove with phase two emissions control technology or better. For more information on registering your wood heating device please contact NSAQMD at 530-832-0102. Friday, November 22: As a cold front gradually approaches the northern Sierra, light westerly to southwesterly winds and periods of moderate to occasionally heavy precipitation will promote atmospheric mixing in Portola. Therefore, AQI levels will be high-Good. Saturday, November 23: As the frontal boundary passes over the Portola region, atmospheric mixing will be enhanced, while snow showers and periods of moderate west-southwesterly winds will aid dispersion. However, decreasing winds by the evening will allow pollutants to accumulate, yielding low-Moderate AQI levels. Sunday, as surface high pressure builds over Portola, calm to light winds throughout the day will allow pollutants to accumulate. Additionally, overnight temperatures in the teens will generate an inversion, inhibiting low-level mixing. Therefore, AQI levels will increase to mid-Moderate. Monday, an upper-level low offshore will aid mixing over northern California. Furthermore, strengthening southwesterly winds will develop through the afternoon, increasing pollutant dispersion. However, periods of calm winds in the morning and evening will allow pollutants to accumulate, resulting in low-Moderate AQI levels. Tuesday, despite a trough of low pressure aiding atmospheric mixing over northern California, surface winds will remain calm to light for much of the day. As a result, AQI levels will be mid-Moderate. Wednesday, a morning temperature inversion will trap pollutants near the ground. In addition, upper-level high pressure offshore will reduce vertical mixing, while calm to light winds will limit dispersion. Therefore, AQI levels will remain mid-Moderate.
