Monday, atmospheric mixing will improve slightly as an upper-level ridge of high pressure gradually departs to the east. However, calm to light westerly winds will inhibit dispersion in the Portola region. In addition, an overnight temperature inversion will confine pollutants to the lower levels of the atmosphere. These conditions will keep AQI levels mid-Moderate. Tuesday, light and variable morning winds will allow pollutants to linger early in the day. However, as a cold front approaches the northern California coast, strengthening southwesterly winds and scattered showers will develop in the afternoon and evening, dispersing pollutants. As a result, AQI levels will be low-Moderate. Wednesday, as the cold front impacts Portola, rain showers and moderate southwesterly winds will keep pollutants well dispersed, yielding low-Moderate AQI levels. Thursday, light to moderate southwesterly winds will continue to disperse pollutants and bring clean air into Portola. Furthermore, periods of precipitation will enhance atmospheric mixing. As a result, AQI levels will lower to high-Good.
