Daily Air Quality Forecast for C Road, California

Friday, January 10 is a Wood Stove Curtailment Day. Wood stove burning is prohibited unless you are burning seasoned wood in a registered EPA-compliant wood stove with phase two emissions control technology or better. For more information on registering your wood heating device please contact NSAQMD at 530-832-0102. Thursday, January 9: Light easterly to east-northeasterly winds will aid dispersion in Portola as a strong surface high pressure system lingers over the Great Basin. However, an evening temperature inversion will develop, trapping pollutants near the ground. As a result, AQI levels will be mid-Moderate. Friday, January 10: A ridge of high pressure aloft will allow a strong temperature inversion to develop during the morning hours, confining pollutants near the surface. Furthermore, calm to light morning winds will allow pollutants to accumulate. Therefore, despite westerly to northwesterly winds aiding dispersion in the afternoon and evening, AQI levels will remain mid-Moderate. Saturday, as an upper-level trough of low pressure passes east of the Portola region, atmospheric mixing will increase. Additionally, periods of moderate easterly afternoon winds will disperse pollutants. Thus, AQI levels will be low-Moderate. Sunday through Tuesday, surface high pressure will return to the Great Basin as a trough of low pressure aloft moves southward into southern California. As a result, light to moderate easterly surface winds each afternoon will enhance dispersion in Portola. However, low temperatures will be in the teens each morning, producing strong inversions that will trap emissions near the ground. Therefore, AQI levels will be mid-Moderate on all three days.
