Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8 are Wood Stove Curtailment Days. Wood stove burning is prohibited unless you are burning seasoned wood in a registered EPA-compliant wood stove with phase two emissions control technology or better. For more information on registering your wood heating device please contact NSAQMD at 530-832-0102. Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8: Temperature inversions and light winds will hinder low-level mixing and dispersion each morning and evening as a ridge of high pressure aloft crosses the northern Sierras. Therefore, despite warm afternoon temperatures, AQI levels will be mid-Moderate on both days. Monday, as an upper-level trough of low pressure approaches northern California, atmospheric mixing will increase. Additionally, strengthening southwesterly winds will disperse pollutants through the afternoon. As a result, AQI levels will improve to low-Moderate. Tuesday and Wednesday, upper-level high pressure will gradually re-build over the region, reducing mixing. Furthermore, as surface high pressure settles to the east, calm to light winds will lead to pollutant build-up, yielding mid-Moderate AQI levels on both days. Thursday, increasing southwesterly winds will aid dispersion in Portola as a trough of low pressure strengthens off the coast of California. Therefore, AQI levels will improve to low-Moderate.
