October 3 – October 7: Hot conditions continue to impact the central coast with HEAT ADVISORIES and EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNINGS issued by the NWS through the end of the work week. A RED FLAG WARNING for critical fire weather in San Benito and Monterey Counties is still in effect and will remain in effect until Thursday night. High-pressure aloft has settled over the region, minimizing onshore breezes and compressing a 33-degree temperature inversion further exacerbating hot conditions (108 recorded in Scotts Valley 10/2). As we enter next week, expect a cooling trend to commence due to low-pressure from the north exhibiting a more typical Fall pattern. Temperatures will range from the low-60s to high-80s at the coast and from the low-60s to mid-100s inland. High pressure is stabilizing atmospheric conditions, and we will see AQIs for PM2.5 (smoke) reach MODERATE levels. Additionally, stable conditions combined with high temperatures could bring Ozone levels to MODERATE as well. AQIs for PM10 will likely be GOOD.
